VASI Electric Elbows for Children
- The only powered prosthetic elbows for small children
- Compatible with a variety of terminal devices and batteries
- Can be used with LTI's VariGrip controllers for hand, wrist, and elbow
- Fit children ages 3 to 12
- Also suitable for petite adults who prefer a lightweight prosthesis
The VASI 3-8 and 8-12 Powered Elbows are the only electric prosthetic elbows available for small children. With two sizes that accommodate growth, the elbows will fit children between the approximate ages of three and 12. They are designed with a unique system of interconnections that includes a comprehensive series of adapters. Using these adapters, the prosthetist can "mix and match" control systems, batteries, and terminal devices from most of the major manufacturers to create an optimal system for the child's needs.
VASI Elbows are typically powered by 6- or 8.4-Volt batteries. They can be controlled by a choice of input devices, including myoelectrodes, linear transducers, switches, or Touch Pads. Connection is easy with VASI's exclusive two-pin connector system. Proportional control is also available.
Central to this system is the standard through-the-elbow electric harness (V079), which:
- Provides battery power to humeral-side controls (one pair of wires);
- Accepts command signals for elbow, wrist, and terminal device operation (three pairs of wires);
- Allows battery connection at either the forearm or the humeral side of the elbow;
- Incorporates a forearm connector block for interconnecting the most common powered prosthetic combinations;
- Features modular construction so that components can be replaced without the need to solder and splice wiring;
- Has unique connectors that eliminate the risk of incorrect hookup and are only 0.1 inch (2.5 mm) thick to help keep the profile slim by allowing the prosthetist to route cables within the elbow housing assembly.
- Is compatible with LTI's VariGrip Controller for prostheses which include powered hands, wrist rotators and elbows.
VASI Powered Elbows have quiet, fast drives and provide 90-degree passive humeral rotation. The 8-12 Elbow features full range-of-motion free swing, and the elbow drive automatically disengages when the elbow is fully extended. When flexed, the elbow automatically engages; when control activation ceases, it locks. To simplify fabrication, the elbows are supplied with forearms that can be easily cut to length. An optional laminated-cover forearm is available for the 3-8 Elbow.
For complex prosthetic systems requiring more than one device, LTI's VariGrip Controller provides a versatile solution. This controller fits in the forearm and provides control for up to four devices. It is programmable so the prosthetist can experiment with various control strategies to find the best one for the user and then can "tune" it to the patient. Alternatively, LTI can pre-program the controller to the prosthetist's specifications.
