Electric Hands for Adults: Myo, Servo, or Switch Control

Electric Hands for Adults: Myo, Servo, or Switch Control
  • 30% lighter than comparable
electric hands – weighs just three-quarters of a pound
  • MultiControlTM microprocessor controller offers five clinician-selectable control strategies
  • PowerForceTM power management system
  • Interchangeable with Powered Gripper

The RSLSteeper MultiControl™ Plus prosthetic hand system offers several advantages over similar products. The hand is responsive – opening or closing in just 0.9 seconds. It is light – weighing as little as 7.5 oz (214 grams). And it is versatile – its on-board microprocessor provides five clinician-selectable control strategies to choose from. It can also accept input signals from any of the following: LTI Touch Pads?, LTI myoelectrodes, Otto Bock myoelectrodes, single-action pull-switches, RSLSteeper Amplifier-Myoelectrodes, or touch-activated switches.

The RSLSteeper MultiControl Plus Hand has a new power management system called PowerForce™. This electronic circuit provides additional grip force on demand and acts like an electric automatic transmission. The Hand has two other features that set it apart: soft finger palps and a break-away thumb. The palps are resilient fingertip pads that conform to the shape of an object, allowing the hand to grasp small or irregular objects without exerting excessive force. And the break-away thumb lets users release the grip in an emergency.

The RSLSteeper MultiControl Plus Hand is offered in five sizes, measured as width across the knuckles: 2 1/4", 2 1/2", 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/4" (corresponding circumference measurements are: 6, 6 3/4", 7 1/4", 7 1/2", 7 3/4" respectively). With so many sizes, these hands are suitable for most adults and many children. The smaller sizes (2 1/4" & 2 1/2") are ideal for teens and small adults. These sizes are missing from most competitors' product lines. Cosmetic gloves are available in a wide range of colors to match the user's skin tone and in various levels of surface definition.

The RSLSteeper MultiControl Plus Hand has five standard control strategies: Within each of the five control modes, there are several ways to configure a hand system, select the control option then choose the inputs that will provide the desirable control signals.

  • Single-site voluntary opening – threshold control
  • Single-site, pulse to open, sustained signal to close, threshold closing speed
  • Single-site, pulse to open, sustained signal to close, proportional closing speed
  • Two-site, threshold control
  • Two-site, proportional control

Proportional control options let the user take full advantage of the MultiControl Plus Hand's features using either myoelectrodes or Touch Pad™ inputs. For prosthetic systems requiring a Bock wrist rotator, the LTI VariGrip™ Controllers should be used. These control two devices and offer proportional speed and grip strength, and feature a battery-saver that shuts off power to the hand when the motor stops under load, thus preventing unintentional battery drain.
